DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z August 28, 2006

Washington/Oregon/California:
Smoke from the fires in Okanogan County is still producing locally
dense smoke that is traveling into southern British Columbia and Alberta
where it is moderately dense. The fires in Northwestern California are
producing a large area of moderately dense smoke initially traveling
west over the Pacific and then tracking into western Oregon. Fires in
north central Oregon and southeastern Washington are bringing thin smoke
into Washington, Northern Idaho, and northeastern Montana.

Idaho:
Locally dense smoke is traveling north/northeast from the valleys of
central Idaho into western Montana.

Montana:
A fire in Lake County is producing a locally dense plume of smoke headed
to the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
