THROUGH 1700Z September 16, 2006

Ontario/Quebec/Northern Maine/New Bunswick:
Fires in Cook County, Minnesota, and in the vicinity of Lake Nipigon,
Ontario are still there this morning, but we can tell if they are
producing smoke as yesterday; however, the very dense smoke can be seen
in western Ontario, central Quebec, northern Maine of US, and New Bunswick
from this morning's satellite imagery.

Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi:
A large area of moderately dense smoke can be seen in the three states
corner or Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi from satellite imagery. It
covers southern half of Arkansas, eastern half of Louisiana, and most
of Mississippi.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
