DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z September 21, 2006

Southern California:
Large fires located mainly in northern Ventura County are still burning
this morning and producing moderately dense to dense plumes of smoke
most of which is moving south SE to the Pacific and some of which is
moving east to western and northern Los Angeles county. The residual
smoke from yesterday has reached northern Mexico.

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
