THROUGH 0200Z September 23, 2006

California:
Fires along Trinity and Siskiyou border are producing a dense plume of
smoke moving westward to the pacific and another fire in western Siskiyou
county north of these fires in is producing a moderately dense narrow
plume of smoke moving also moving to the west.

The fire in Sierra county is producing a narrow area of moderately dense
smoke moving to the west county boundary.

A westward moderately dense to dense plume of smoke from Ventura county of
southern California can be seen in this morning's satellite imagery. It's
moving to the western coast of California and mixing with coast clouds.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
