DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z September 30, 2006

California:
The wildfires located within the national forests of northwest California
continue to    produce dense smoke that is moving up along the coast
into Oregon.

Idaho/Montana:
Wildfires in central and southeast Idaho are producing moderately dense
to dense smoke that is moving into western Montana and northwest Wyoming.

Light remnant smoke from fires in Idaho can be seen moving across eastern
Montana and southern Saskatchewan.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
