DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z October 1, 2006

Baja California:
A fire about 35 km south of the California border continues to burn
producing a moderately dense plume of smoke heading to the south SE.

Arizona:
The fire burning yesterday in Apache county just south of the town of
Fort Defiance is emitting a light plume of smoke moving northeast into
Mckinley county in New Mexico.
A small fire in Yavapai county just southeast of the town of Prescott
is producing an area of light smoke moving northeast, but staying within
the county border at this time.

Northern California/Oregon/Washington/Idaho
The wildfire burning in the Salmon and Trinity Alps Wilderness (Siskiyou
and Trinity Counties) in continuing to produce a large area of thick
smoke across northern California and southwest Oregon. Moderately dense
smoke from this fire stretches northwest into the Pacific Ocean and north
through most of western Oregon and into southeast Washington. Lighter
smoke has moved east into central Oregon and northern/central Idaho.

The wildfire in Harney county near the town of Diamond is producing an
area of dense smoke moving northeast into Malheur county and the counties
of Payette, Boise, and Gem in western Idaho.

British Columbia/Alberta:
Multiple fires are burning across the southern portions of the two
provinces with some fires emitting narrow plumes of smoke moving north
to northeast in direction.

Idaho/Montana/Wyoming:
The wildfire burning in Boundary County (Kaniksu National Forest)
continues to produce a dense smoke plume moving to the east into northwest
Montana and southeastern edges of British Columbia and almost reaching
southwestern Alberta.

Multiple wildfires burning in Clearwater county (Clearwater National
Forest), Washington, Boise, Custer, Valley, and Elmore counties (Boise and
Payette National Forests) are continuing to produce areas of moderately
dense to dense smoke moving east across most of Idaho and into western
part of Montana and now Wyoming.

Utah:
A fire in the Ashley National Forest (Duchesne county) is producing an
area of moderately dense smoke moving east into the counties of Uintah
and Rio Blanco/Moffat in Colorado.
A small fire in Sanpete county is emitting a light plume of smoke moving
north into Juab and Utah counties.

Southeast/Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains:
Multiple agricultural/prescribed burns are burning across this area of
the country emitting only light plumes of smoke.  The largest of these
fires is in Plaquemines county in the Texas Panhandle.  The smoke is
moving north into Randall and Deaf Smith counties.

Northern Plains/Saskatchewan/Manitoba:
Multiple agricultural burns are producing only light smoke across this
region.  Only a few of these fires are emitting smoke that can be seen
in satellite imagery and the fires in Manitoba are west of the lakes.

North Carolina:
A fire in Beaufort county near the town of Pine town is emitting a
moderately dense plume of smoke moving north into the counties of
Washington, Bertie and Martin.
