DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z October 4, 2006

No significant areas of smoke observed this evening, but some small
areas of thin to moderately dense smoke from agricultural firer, which
are as follows:

Southern US:
A lot of agricultural fires in southern US, including Texas, Liouisiana,
Alabama, Mississippi, and Arkansas, are producing puffs of northward
thin smoke.

British Columbia:
Two fires in central British Columbia of western Canada are producing
moderately dense plumes of smoke.

Ontario:
A fire in eastern Ontario, Canada is producing a moderately dense plume
of smoke moving eastward.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
