DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z November 14, 2006

Lower Mississippi Valley:
Many of the agricultural fires throughout Missouri, Arkansas, Alabama
and Louisiana are producing plumes of light to moderately dense smoke
that is moving mostly in a southern direction.

Arizona:
A rather large fire in Yavapai county was discovered producing dense
smoke after the clouds cleared out late in the day. The smoke plume is
extending to southeast.

Several fires in Apache county, of Arizona's east coast are producing
moderately dense smoke that is mainly staying local to the fire.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
