DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z November 18, 2006

Arizona:
Three fires in Coconino county of northern Arizona are producing thin
to moderately dense plumes of smoke moving to north NE. These smoke
plumes only influnce locally.  A fire in western Yavapai county is
producing a moderately dense to locally dense plume of somke that is
moving northeasterly across the boundary between Yavapai and Coconino
counties into Coconino county.  A fire along the boundary between Gila
and Graham counites is producing a large area of thin smoke which is
fanning out to the north and has covered the southern portion of Navajo
and Apache counties.

New Mexico:
Three fires in Mc inley, Rio Arriba, and Otero counties of New Mexico
are producing thin to moderately dense plumes of easterly somke.

Mexico:
Two fires in northern Mexico near southern California are producing
moderately dense plumes of southerly somke.  Another two fires in
northern Mexico near Texas are producing thin to moderately dense plumes
of southeasterly smoke.

Texas:
Two fires in Zavala and Cameron of southern Texas are producing thin
plumes of smoke. Two fires in Marrison and Gregg counties of eastern Texas
are producing thin to moderately dense plumes of northerly smoke. The
smoke plume in Marrison county has moved from the central of eastern
Marrison county across Marion county to the north of Cass county.

Louisiana:
A fire in Rapides county is producing a moderately dense plume of smoke
that is moving northward accross eastern Grant county into Winn county. A
fire in southeastern Sabin Lake is producing a moderately dense plume of
smoke that is moving mainly northward and has covered the whole lake. A
fire in St. Martin is producing a thin to moderately dense plume of
southeaserly smoke.

Kansas:
A fire in northern Kansas is producing a moderately dense pluem of
southerly smoke and has reached central seward county.

Florida:
A fire in Leon county of Panhandle Florida is producing a moderately
dnese to locally dnese plume of smoke that is moving southeaserly to
the Gulf of Mexico. A fire in central Marion county is producing a
moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving east southeast across
northern Volusia county to the Flagler county.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
