DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z November 24, 2006

California:
A fire in central Colusa county of California is producing a moderately
dense plume of smoke that is moving southward across Yolo county into
central Solano county. A fire in northern Fresno county is producing
a puff of moderately dense smoke plume that is moving southward and
reaching south of Kings county.

Louisiana/Gulf of Mexico:
Numerous fires along Mississippi river in Louisiana are burning
and producing thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke moving south
southeast. These smoke plumes mainly influence locally. Several fires
in Marsh Island are producing moderately dense to locally dense plumes
of smoke that are moving southward to the Gulf of Mexico. A fire in
central of southern Cameron county and several fires near Port Arthur are
producing moderately dense plumes of smoke that are moving southward to
the Gulf of Mexico. The residual smoke with today's smoke plumes from
southern Louisiana fires formed a north-south directed smoke belt with
a length of about 370 miles moving to the west.

Arkansas/Oklahoma/Missouri:
A fire in Grant county of Arkansas is producing a moderately dense plume
of smoke that is moving northerly across Pulaski county to Cleburne county
of Arkansas. A fire in northern Cherokee county of Oklahoma is producing
a moderately dense plume of northerly smoke that reached Delaware county
of Oklahoma. A fire in eastern Christlan county of Missouri is producing
a thin plume of northerly smoke.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
