DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z December 9, 2006


Georgia:
Several agricultural fires burning across western and central Georgia
are producing light plumes of smoke that can be seen moving in mainly
a southward direction.

Arkansas:
A rather large agricultural fire located in Clark county is producing
moderately dense smoke that is moving to the north northeast.  Several
other smaller agricultural fires can be seen in that area as well,
producing light smoke plumes that are moving to the north.

Louisiana:
In Vernon county of western Louisiana a fire is producing moderately dense
smoke that is extending to the southwest across the eastern Texas border.

Texas:
Several agricultural fires in eastern Texas are producing rather light
somke that is moving southwest.

California:
A fire on the border of Humphreys and Yazhoo counties produced a single
puff of moderately dense smoke that has moved at least two counties to
the north.  Just north in Sunflower county there is another fire that
is producing light smoke that is moving to the north.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
