DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z December 31, 2006

California:
Several fires from southern of Salton Sea to US-Mexico border in Imperial
county are burning and producing moderately dense plumes of smoke that
are moving to the south southeast across Imperial county into northern
Mexico. Those smoke plumes maybe influence El Centro and Brawley cities
in southern Imperial county.

Mexico:
A bunch of fires in northern Mexico near the Gulf of California are
producing moderately dense plumes of smoke that are moving to the south
or southeast.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
