DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z January 8, 2007

Southern California/Baja California:
A fire on the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties and multiple
fires burning in northern Baja are producing light to moderate smoke
moving west to southwest and reaching the Pacific. The smoke from these
fires are mixing in with the area of dust/sand blowing across southern
California and Baja California into the Pacific.

South Florida:
Multiple fires burning around Lake Okeechobee in the counties of Palm
Beach and Hendry are emitting an area of light smoke moving north
across the lake and into the counties of Martin, Okeechobee, Highlands
and Glades. The fires are most likely agricultural.

Texas:
A fire in Aransas county along the Texas coast is producing a moderate
plume of smoke moving south SE into the Gulf of Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
