DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z January 29, 2007

Louisiana:
A fire in Tangipahoa county is producing a 60-70 km light plume of smoke
moving southwest across St. Bernard, Orleans and Jefferson counties.

Oregon:
A fire in the northern end of Coos county is emitting a light plume of
smoke moving northwest across Douglas county and into the Pacific.
In Deschutes county a small fire is producing smoke moving south into
Klamath county.

California:
A fire in Shasta county is emitting light smoke to the southwest. Smoke
is staying within county borders.

Hawaii:
The large wildfire on the island of Maui can no longer be seen in
satellite imagery producing smoke although it was picked up early in
the morning around 1100z as a fire point.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
