DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2302Z February 25, 2007

Florida:
Though high cirrus and tops of thunderstorms have begun to obscure the
very large smoke area near Lk. Okeechobee (from a fire just North of
US-27 and NW of Moore Haven in Glades county) the smoke was moving due
east across the northern portions of the Lake and S Okeechobee county
into St. Lucie county then out to sea. The smoke was thin to moderate
as it had been mixing with cumulus clouds all day. The largest puff
from the initial burning around daybreak was transported higher up into
the atmosphere with a weak towering cumulus.

Texas:
A few of the fires, particularly along the coastal counties, have produced
very thin clouds that are barely discernible on visible imagery.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
