DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z February 27, 2007

Southeast/Lower Mississippi Valley/Southern Plains.
Numerous fires are burning across the above region with some of the
fires producing light to moderate smoke.  Although most fires are only
emitting light smoke for about two to four hours in length. The following
mentioned fires below are the larger in size fires and/or are producing
moderate smoke .

Georgia:
A fire in Chattahoochee county is emitting a light plume of smoke
east into Marion, Schley, Taylor, Peach, Crawford and Marion counties.
The plume extends out 90-110 km.

Alabama:
A fire in Cleburne county is producing a light plume of smoke 70-85 km
long northeast into Haralson, Paulding and Carroll counties Alabama. The
smoke also extends into Douglas county Georgia.
In Butler county a fire is emitting light smoke northeast into Crenshaw
and Pike counties.  The plume extends 60-70 km.

Arkansas:
A 100-120 km long plume of light smoke extends east from the county of
Scott and is moving into Polk, Yell, Montgomery and Garland counties.
A fire in Montgomery county is emitting a moderate plume of smoke east
into Garland, Hot Springs, Grant and Saline counties.  The plume extends
100-120 km in length.

Oklahoma:
A fire in Pushmataha county is producing a light plume of smoke east into
Le Flore, McCurtain counties and Howard, Polk, Sevier counties Arkansas.
The plume extends 110-130 km.
In Cleveland county a fire is producing moderate smoke extending south
into McClain, Murray and Caster counties.
In Roger Mills county,  moderate smoke is extending into Beckham from
a fire burning early this afternoon into early evening.

Texas:
Fires burning in Brooks, Kenedy and Kleberg counties are producing a
combined area of moderate smoke as far north as Refugio and San Patricio
counties.
An area of dust is moving southeast across western Texas and now
extending into central Texas.  The counties affected are Scury,
Mitchell, Nolan, Fisher, Jones, Taylor, Kent, Karya, Coke and Runnels.
Additional counties are most likely seeing the dust as it moves across
areas farther southeast.

Arizona:
A fire in Autaugo county is emitting light smoke northeast, but staying
within county borders.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
