DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z March 4, 2007


Texas:
A fire on the border of Galveston and Chambers county on the Gulf Coast
of Texas is producing a significant amount of light smoke that is moving
to the south over the Gulf.

Several fires in southern Texas are also producing very light plumes of
smoke moving to the south.

Oklahoma:
Many fires across central and eastern Okalhoma are producing light plumes
of smoke that are moving to the south or southeast.

In visible imagery, there is also dust visible moving throughout Okalhoma
and western Texas.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
