THROUGH 0140Z March 22, 2007

Southeastern US including Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina:
Two fires in Cherokee and Calhoun counties of western Alabama were burning
and producing thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke that were moving
northward into southern Jackson county of northeastern Alabama. Two
fires in Jasper and Putnam counties in central Georgia were producing
thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke that were moving northwestward
into DE Kalb and Walton counties respectively. Two fires in Aiken county
of western South Carolina were producing thin to moderately dense plumes
of smoke that were moving northwestward into Edgefield county. Due to
clouds, we cannot tell if there is still smoke there.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
