DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1550Z March 23, 2007

Southeastern U.S.
The fires in the southeastern U.S. are just beginning to become active
again this morning and so far only one is producing a smoke plume that
can be seen in GOES satellite imagery. A fire near the border of Heard
and Carroll Counties in Georgia is producing a narrow moderate smoke
plume that extends toward the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
