DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z March 30, 2007

Florida:
Several fires on the Gulf Coast of Taylor and Dixie counties are
producing light smoke that is extending 50 nmi to the southwest into
the Gulf of Mexico.

Georgia:
A fire on the border of Bryan and Liberty counties has been active
all day, producing significant amounts of light to moderately dense
smoke. Initially it was moving to the north, but midday it began to fan
out to the west and eventually started heading more to the southwest.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
