DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0150Z April 2, 2007

Kansas and Oklahoma:
Many fires are burning in the two states. Several fires in Butler, Cowley,
Chautauqua, Greenwood, and Elk counites of southern Kansas and Osage and
Hay counties in northern Oklahoma are producing thin to moderately dense
plumes of smoke that are moving mainly westerly and has almost covered
southeastern corner of Kansas and portion of western Missouri.

Florida:
A big fire in southwestern corner of Palm Beach county is producing
a locally very dense plume of smoke that is moving northwestward into
northern DE Soto and western Highlands counties of Florida before dark.

Cuba:
A lot of fires in Cuba are burning and producing thin to moderately dense
plumes of smoke that are mainly moving to the northwest. Moreover, one
fire in the eastern and western ends of Cuba respectively is producing
a dense to very dense plume of smoke. The eastern one is moving to the
northwest and the western one is moving to the west.

Grand Bahama:
Several fires in Grand Bahama Island are producing thin to moderately
dense plumes of smoke that are moving to the northwest.

Mexico:
A fire in northern Mexcio is producing a moderately dense to locally
dense plume of smoke that is moving westward and close to the top point
of the Gulf of California.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
