DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0045Z April 5, 2007

Southern Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma
Tis the season for the Flint Hills to be cleared as part of the cycle
of the big bluestem grasses. Massive number of fires across this area
has resulted in numerous smoke plumes, some stretching up to 100 nmi,
that were moving towards the south and southwest.

Arkansas
Moderate to at times dense smoke has moved south from fires in Yell,
Franklin and Van Buren counties.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
