DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z April 11, 2007

Gulf of Mexico
A broad area of mostly thin smoke was seen over the Gulf of Mexico, mainly
between 85-95W. The smoke is a little more dense over the southwest Gulf
in the Bay of Campeche and also off the coast of southeast Louisiana down
to about 25N. The source of the smoke is numerous fires over southeast
Mexico and northern Guatemala.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
