DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z April 20, 2007

Southeast:

Smoke from the large fire in Wade county Georgia is visible in a
small area of the northeast Gulf of Mexico adjacent to Dixie county.
An additional patch of smoke likely from this fire is seen in the
northern Bahamas.  The area of the fire itself is obscured by clouds.

Elsewhere widespread areas of smoke is not observed in imagery.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
