DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z April 30, 2007

Georgia, Florida, Bahamas and Atlantic Ocean:
Large fires in Atkinson and Ware counties of southern Georgia are
producing enormous amounts of smoke that is moving to the south. The
majority of the smoke is being produced by the fire in Atkinson county;
the smoke is moving to the south over northern Florida, then is spreading
to the east out over the Bahamas and further east into the Atlantic Ocean.
The most dense smoke is found in southern Georgia, northern Floria and
just north of the Bahama Islands. However, moderately dense smoke is
found spreading throughout the rest of Florida, the eastern Gulf of
Mexico and into the central portions of the Atlantic Ocean.

Gulf of Mexico:
Moderately dense to dense smoke can be seen along the southwest/west
part of the Gulf of Mexico. This smoke is being produce all throughout
Mexico and is moving to the north into the Gulf.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
