THROUGH 1502Z May 04, 2007

Northern Florida, Georgia, and Carolinas:
The fires in Atkinson county of southern Georgia and Flagler county
in eastern Florida are still burning and producing moderately dense to
locally dense plumes of smoke, which combined with the residual smoke
of yesterday night has covered all the states mentiond on the title and
the nearby ocean areas.

Gulf of Mexico:
A light to moderate mix of haze and smoke (from many days of Yucatan
fires) covers much of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. The smoke can
also be seen onshore throughout the Gulf coast states of Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
