DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z May 05, 2007

The only smoke visible in satellite imagery is located in the southeastern
United States. This is due to the thick weather clouds across the US.

Georgia/Florida/Bahamas:
Fires located in Atkinson and Charlton counties, in southern georgia
are producing a great amount of very dense smoke that is combining
with very dense smoke being produced by a large fire in Flagler county
of northeastern Florida. The smoke produced by these three fires is
spreading out in all different directions. The majority of dense to
very dense smoke is located in northern Florida and southern Georgia.

There is however, some dense smoke along Georgia's and Florida's Atlantic
Coast as well as just north of the Bahama Islands.

Light smoke extends from northern Georgia, into western South Carolina,
down the Atlantic Coast just north of the Bahamas, covering most of
Florida and into the eastern portion of the Gulf of Mexico.

Smoke can also be seen in the southwest Gulf of Mexico that has been
produced by the massive amount of fires located throughtout the Yucatan
Peninsula.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
