DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1555Z May 06, 2007

Florida:

Fire along the Volusia-Flagler county line is generating a light to
moderate plume of smoke extending east into the Atlantic.

Gulf of Mexico and Gulf Coast States:

Diffuse residual smoke from fires in Central America was observed over
the extreme western Gulf of Mexico into Texas. There was also some
suggestion that this smoke and/or haze had been transported into the
Lower Mississippi Valley.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
