DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1402Z May 25, 2007

Southeast/Mississippi Valley/Great Lakes:
A large area of thin and moderate smoke extended from the Bugaboo
and Turnaround fire in SE Georgia through much of southern and
western Alabama. Thin smoke and haze extends through Mississippi then
northeastward through the Mississippi Valley and Midwest just ahead of a
cold front. No significant smoke can be seen from a fire on the border
of Osceola and Polk counties in south-central Florida.

SE Canada:
A fire in SW Quebec is still producing a plume of heavy smoke moving to
the east.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
