DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1432Z June 1, 2007

Georgia:
Smoke from the ongoing fires in southeastern Georgia is obscurred by
high and mid-level clouds this morning. A band of haze arcs northward
from Alabama to Ohio and then eastward across southern Pennsylvania and
central New Jersey.

No other significant smoke plumes can be seen on morning imagery across
the lower 48.

Canada:
Some smoke is drifting eastward across Lake Athabasca into northern
Saskatchewan presumably from fires yesterday northwest of the lake.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
