DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z June 6, 2007

Florida/Gulf of Mexico:
A large swath of thin smoke and haze from fires in southern Mexico
stretched across the Gulf to Florida and the Atlantic Ocean.

Saskatchewan/Upper Mississippi Valley:
Fires in central Saskatchewan produced a plume of thin smoke that drifted
southward to northern Minnesota.

Canada:
Narrow plumes of light and moderate smoke moved mostly to the southwest
over northern Alberta and northern Saskatchewan. Plumes of thin smoke
moved to the northwest from fires in central Yukon Territory and western
Northwest Territories.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
