DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z June 7, 2007

Canada and Alaska:
The large fire west of Great Bear Lake is still producing locally dense
plumes of smoke that are moving to the west across the border into
eastern Alaska.

Very large fires in northern Alberta and central Alberta are still
producing dense smoke that is moving southeastward all the way into
cenral Saskatchewan.

In Saskatchewan several fires northeast of Lake Athabasca and in central
Saskatchewan are producing narrow plumes of moderately dense smoke that
are moving south southeast. A large area of moderately smoke stretched
from central to southern Saskatchewan is believed orginally from these
fires.

The northern half of Lake Winnipeg is covered by a area of thin to
moderately dense smoke which is believed from the fires northeast of
Lake Winnipeg.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
