DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 13, 2007

Alberta/Northwest Territories:
Fires in the Wood Buffalo National Park and west of Lake Athabasca
are producing thin smoke with some dense pockets moving towards the
west. Some residual smoke from yesterday is moving north into the
Northwest Territories and across the Great Slave Lake.

Quebec:
Fires near and west of Res Manicouagan in central Quebec are producing
light to moderately dense smoke moving south to southwest across the
province.  The number of fires have grown during the last  couple days.

Alabama:
Fires in Marion and Lamar counties are producing light to moderately
dense smoke moving south into Fayette and Pickens counties.

Arkansas/Missouri/Kentucky/Tennessee/Louisiana/Mississippi:
Numerous agricultural/prescribed fires are burning across the following
state producing mostly thin narrow plumes of smoke.  Most of the smoke
is moving towards the south to southwest.

Michigan/Wisconsin:
A fire on the border of Florence county Wisconsin and Iron county Michigan
is producing an area of moderately dense smoke moving north NW.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
