DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z June 22, 2007

Alaska:
The large cluster of fires on the southwest portion of the Kenai Peninsula
continue to produce large amounts of dense smoke. The smoke is moving to
the north, through central Alasak, moving over Anchorage and Fairbanks,
and reaching northwestern Alasaka and northeastern Yukon Territory.

Yukon/Northwest Territories:
Moderately dense residual smoke can be seen moving across the southern
parts of Yukon, this smoke is most likely from the fire that has been
burning in southern Yukon over the past few days.

The large fire just west of Great Bear Lake continues to produce
moderately dense to dense smoke that is moving both to the northeast
and southwest.

Just ousth of Great Slave Lake, dense smoke can be seen moving north
towards the lake. This smoke is from fires that have been burning just
west of Lake Athabasca over the past few weeks.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
