DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z June 26, 2007

Northwest/Yukon Territories:
The large fires to the east of Great Bear Lake are producing massive
amounts of very dense smoke. The smoke is spreading to both the
north/northwest and south of the fires, covering most of eastern Yukon
Territory and starting to make its way into northern British Columbia.

Wyoming:
A fire in western Sublette county is producing a light to moderately
dense plume of smoke that was originally moving to the east early this
morning, but has since shifted in a more northern direction.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
