DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z June 28, 2007

NW Canada:
A 150 mile wide line of moderately dense smoke can be seen stretching
from the northern portion of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba all the way through
to the Beaufort Sea off of the Northwest Territories. East of Great Bear
Lake on the border of Yukon, there is a dense stationary area of smoke.

Montana/Wyoming/Colorado:
Moderately dense smoke from yesterday's Horse Creek fire is detached
and stretched from southern Montana through Wyoming into Northwestern
Colorado. This area is moving to the east and dissipating with time.

Mid-Atlantic/Southeast:
A large area of haze from Northeastern Georgia to the Delmarva peninsula
is moving to the northeast out into the Atlantic.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
