DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1550Z July 3, 2007

New Mexico/Arizona:
A fire in northern Greenlee county of Arizona is producing a moderately
dense to locally dense thin plume of smoke that is moving southerly to
southern border of the county. Some of the smoke is blown to the east
and across the Arizona-New Mexico border into western New Mexico. A fire
insouthern Catron county of New Mexico is producing a thin to moderately
dense plume of smoke that is moving southerly to the southern boundary
of Catron county.

Utah/Wyoming/Colorado:
The residual smoke from the large fire in Duschesne county of northeast
Utah has divided into two parts. The first part is thin to moderately
dense and swirling in northwestern Utah near the fire point; the sencond
one is moderately dense to locally dense and now extends from central
Wyoming-South Dakota border to northern Texas. The mainly influenced
areas are southeastern Wyoming, eastern Colorado, western Kansas, and
Okolahoma panhandle.

Canada:
Fires south of Lake Athabasca and west of Reindeer Lake in Northern
Saskatchewan are still burning this morning ans producing dense plumes

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
