DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z July 4, 2007

Utah/Colorado/New Mexico/Arizona:
A large area of moderately dense smoke from the large fires in northern
and central Utah and western Arizona has covered large portions of Utah,
Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona in southwestern US.

Northwest Territories/Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Ontario:
A swath of moderately dense smoke has extended from Great Slave Lake
across northeastern Saskatchewan and northern half of Manitoba into
eastern Ontario.

Alaska:
The light to moderately dense smoke from the large fires in the center
of Yukon-Koyukuk county has covered almost everywhere Alaska.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
