DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200 July 16, 2007
California/Oregon/Washington/Idaho/Montana/Wyoming/Colorado/Dakotas/British Columbia/Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba: The big fires in Siskiyou and Modoc counties of northern California, Harney county, Jefferson, Grant counties of Oregon, Okanogan county of northern Washington, Idaho and Valley counties of Idaho, and Flathead county of Montana are all producing locally very dense plumes of smoke that are all moving northeastward and all mixed together to form a very large area of thin to dense smoke. The most dense portion of the smoke has covered central Oregon, southeast Washington, Idaho Panhandle, almost all of Montana, southeast corner of British Columbia, southern Alberta, southwestern Saskatchewan, and western Dakotas. Some thin smoke can be seen in eastern Wyoming and northeastern Colorado. Southern California: The fires in Santa Barbara are still burning today and are producing moderately dense to dense plumes of smoke that are swirling around then moving northwesterly to northern San Luis Obispo county. Manitoba: Several new fires jumped out this evening with the large fires north of Lake Winnipeg are producing locally very dense plumes of smoke that are moving southward and has covered most portions of northern Manitoba. Northwest Territories/Alberta/Saskatchewan: The big fires east of Great Slave Lake are producing locally dense plumes of smoke that are moving mainly southward and has covered southern Northwest Territories, northern Alberta, and northern half of Saskatchewan.
