DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z July 20, 2007

Alaska:
A fire in Yukon-Koyukuk county is producing a locally dense area of
smoke that is hovering over the area slowly moving to the southeast.

Yukon:
A fire in central Yukon is producing moderately dense smoke moving to
the southwest.

Manitoba:
A lot of large fires ranging from northern Manitoba to just north of
Lake Winnipeg are burning and producing dense plumes of smoke that are
moving north-northeast.

Northwest Territories/Nunavut/Ontario:
Remnant smoke from across the northern Northwest Territories and Nunavut,
through the Hudson Bay and is beginning to move into Ontario.

Nevada/Idaho:
The large area of wildfires in NE Nevada and southern Idaho continues
to produce moderately dense smoke moving toward the north. The fires on
the edge of Owyhee and Twin Falls counties is currently producing the
densest area of smoke stretching up into Ada county.

Utah:
A fire in Tooele county just south of Great Salt Lake was producing
dense smoke overnight that is not detached. This area stretches from
Tooele county through Idaho and into Montana's Madison county.

Remnant smoke from the fires in Nevada/Idaho/Utah and Northern Canada
stretches all the way from Great Slave late in the Northwest Territory,
through Saskatchewan, southeastern Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
