DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z UTC August 17, 2007


California/Nevada:
Large fires in Santa Barbara County in southern California are producing
extensive smoke. Very Dense smoke drifted to the northwest over western
Kern County while light to moderately dense smoke moved southward
over the Santa Barbara Channel and northward across western Nevada to
southwestern Idaho.

Southwestern Canada/Northwestern United States/Northern Plains/Northeast:
Numerous Large persistent fires over the Northwest and southern British
Columbia are causing moderate to very dense smoke that stretched eastward
across Montana to the Northern Plains. The smoke thins over the Midwest,
The Ohio Valley and the Northeast.

Southeast/Middle Atlantic:
Haze and smoke from the fires in the West are visible over the Middle
Atlantic, the Southeast and along the Atlantic Coast.
