DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z UTC August 23, 2007

Southern California/Arizona:
Remnant smoke from the Barbara County fire is detached and moving across
southeastern California and into Nevada and Arizona. Last night's fire in
northern Baja California has left a thin trail of smoke across southern
Arizona.

Ontario, Canada:
Thin upper level smoke is traveling across the province from the numerous
fires in the upper Mississippi valley.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
