DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z August 29, 2007

Idaho/Montana/Wyoming/S.Dakota/Minnesota/Iowa/Wisconsin:
Moderately dense to dense smoke can be seen stretching across the northern
half of the country into the Great Lakes from the numerous fires in Idaho
and Montana. The densest areas of smoke cover Idaho, southern Montana,
and central Wyoming.

California:
A small area of locally dense smoke can be seen over the fire in Tulare
county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
