DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z September 02, 2007

Oregon:
Smoke from the large fire on the border of Deschutes and Jefferson
counties extended 150 km to the northeast.
Northern Rockies/Northern Plains/Great Lakes:
Fires from the large complexes of fires in Idaho and Montana have
resulted in moderately dense residual smoke across the northern Rockies
and Plains, southern Canada and Great Lakes.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
