DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z September 10, 2007

Idaho and Oregon:
The residual smoke from the numerous persistent fires in central Idaho
formed a thin smoke area that has covered the central Idaho and porton
of eastern Oregon.

California/Nevada/Utah/Colorado/New Mexico:
The fire in Plumas National Forest of Plumas county in northeastern
California is still producing moderately dense plumes of smoke that are
moving eastward. The new smoke with the residual smoke from yesterday's
burning has formed a elongated area with moderately dense smoke which
has covered almost all the northern half of California, central Nevada,
central Utah, western Colorado, and portion of northern New Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
