DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z September 14, 2007

Washington:
A large wildfire on the Ferry and Lincoln county border is producing
locally dense smoke that is traveling to the south into northern Oregon.

Idaho/Montana to the Middle Mississippi Valley:
A large swath of moderately dense smoke can be seen stretching from
southeastern Washington to the Middle Mississippi Valley and pushing
into Indiana and the Upper Great Lakes.

Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
