DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1532Z September 19, 2007

Great Lakes/Ohio River Valley:
Thin smoke can be seen in advance of a cold front across the upper
Midwest of the US east of a line from Rolla, MO to St. Louis to Chicago,
along Lake Michigan to the center of the low near Isle Royale in NW Lake
Superior and covers all of E UP of MI, MI, IN, OH, central and E KY,
NE TN, Lake Huron, and much of Ontario,  including from northern Ontario
west to the cold front and north to around 48N where it becomes covered
with weather clouds.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
