DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z September 21, 2007

Ohio River and central Mississippi River Valley:
A pocket of remnant smoke from last week's fire output in ID has remained
nearly stationary and mixed well with haze/pollutants across a 200km
wide line centered along a corridor from Albany, NY to Pittsburgh, PA
to Columbus, OH to Indianapolis, IN, to St. Louis, MO.  The smoke is
slowly drifting west.

Bootheel of MO:
Numerous agricultural fires across the Bootheel of MO (and ext S IL,
ext W KY have produced moderate puffs of smoke that have consolidated
into a larger area of thin smoke that covers the following counties: In
MO, Ripley, Butler, SE Wayne, S Bollinger, Stoddard, Scott, New Madrid,
Mississippi, NW Pemiscot, Dunklin.  In AR, W Clay, E Craighead.

Mississippi River Plains of SE AR, NW MS, NE LA:
Similar to the Bootheel of MO, numberous agricultural fires in the
Mississippi River Plains between the Yazoo River Little Rock/Pine
Bluff/US-425 corridor are producing moderate puffs of smoke that have
consolidated into 2 pockets of thin smoke.  The first over AR, covering
the following counties: Arkansas, Jefferson, Lincoln, Cleveland, E Drew,
NW Desha counties. This area is moving SW.   The 2nd area is also moving
SW and covers the following counties in MS: Tunica, Coahoma, Sunflower,
W Tallahatchie, Leflore, Washington, N Issaquena.  Counties in NE LA:
Morehouse, West and East Carroll. Counties in E AR: St. Francis and Lee.

West and Central AR:
A fire near Gree Tree in Van Buren county, AR produced a puff of thin
smoke that moved due west and currently covers all of N Conway and W
Van Buren counties.
A fire near Broomfield or Tag in Pope county produced thin to moderate
smoke that extends due W covering nearly all of Johnson and Franklin
counties.
A fire near Griffithtown or Knoxville in E Clark county produced a large
puff of moderate smoke this morning that is about 25 km by 25km and has
drifted west.  It is currently centered of the intersection of Howard,
Hempstead, and Pike counties.
A fire near Yancy in SW Hempstead county produced a plume of smoke that
moved due west and is currently covers all of Littler River county, AR.

Oklahoma:
A fire near Shinewell or Goodwater in E McCurtain county produced
moderately dense smoke that moved due west along the Red River and is
centered near Frogville in SE Choctaw county.

NE Texas:
A fire near Eureka and Hagansport in Franklin county produced a puff
of smoke that moved west slowly in a circular shape and is over E Delta
and N Hopkins county at this time.
A fire near Window and Flag Springs in Fannin county just recently puffed
thin smoke that is moving SW but only image is available for that fire,
so it does not extend very far yet (only over central Fannin county).

Louisiana:
A fire along the central Bossier/Webster parish line produced a plume
of smoke that moved WSW across the river into SW Caddo parish.
A fire near Knight and Savage Fork in far SW Vernon parish produced thin
smoke that moved SW along the Sabine River to the Newton/Orange county
line in Texas.

Wyoming:
A fire near Wright in south central Campbell county is producing a
plume of thin smoke that rapidly moving NE over 83km to the Crook/Weston
county line. Since the winds are so fast...the plume is no more than 2
or 3km wide.
A fire near the eastern tip of the Washakie Wilderness Area in W Hot
Springs county is producing a plume of thin smoke that extends ENE over
70km into N Washakie county but again the winds are so fast...the plume
is no more than 5km wide.

Utah (S WY):
A large fire near Clear Creek along the spine of the Wasatch Mtns at the
intersection of Sanpete/Emery/Carbon counties is proudcing dense smoke
that is moving rapidly NE and extends clear 325km to near Table Rock in
eastern Sweetwater county WY. The plume is about 50km along its length,
though there are some surpantine wiggles in the plume due to the small
waves in the upper atmosphere.

Nevada:
A new fire along the Grant Range near US-6 along the Nye/White Pine
county line is producing a narrow but moderately dense to dense smoke
that extends due north 125km across most of White Pine county. The plume
is on average about 21km wide.

Alaska:
The large fire south fo Umiat (north of the Brooks Range) has thin smoke
from today and yesterday's burning that is low level and banked up along
the northern/northwest slopes of the Brooks range between 151W and 147W.
