DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z September 26, 2007

Atlantic Ocean/US Northeast coast:
An area of light smoke mixed with haze lingers off the northeast
coast from south of Long Island stretching east NE to southern Nova
Scotia. Smoke is most likely from fires out west. The smoke/haze is
moving easterly across the Atlantic Ocean.

There are no other significant smoke producing fires seen across the US
based on satellite imagery through 26/1600z.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
