DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z September 27, 2007

Kansas/Texas:
Several fires throughout Kansas and northern Texas are producing very
light plumes of smoke that are mainly moving to the north.

A fire in southwest Kansas is producing a moderately dense plume that
is fanning out to the southeast.

Arizona:
Multiple fires flared up late in the evening throughout Coconino county
and Yavapai county.

The fires in Coconino county are producing light to moderately dense
plumes of smoke that are all moving to the east northeast.

The fire in Yavapai county is producing moderately dense to dense smoke
that is moving to both the north and to the south of the actual fire
reaching the northern and southern county borders.

California/Baja:
A fire just north of Salton Sea in southern California is producing a
plume of moderately dense smoke that is moving to the south southeast.

Further south, just over the California/Baja border a small fire is
producing light smoke that is flaring out in every direction.

In northern California, a large fire in Modoc county flared up late in
the evening and is producing a moderately dense plume of smoke that is
moving to the northwest into Oregon.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
